GM Blog: Snowmaking Resumes!
Dec 1 @ 10 am: I hate to jinx what looks like a decent forecast but I think we have waited long enough! Could it be that we are moving into more seasonable temps? I think snow, I mean so.
Our snowmakers were ready when the temps presented and started making snow on last night on Cascade, Canyon, Launch Pad, Long John & Mineshaft. They will keep blowing as long as temps hold. And they will do it all over again tonight and the next and….You get the picture. We are going for it! Here’s a few FAQs.
Q: How many hours of snowmaking does it take to open?
A: It all depends on the weather. The colder and lower the humidity the better. It can be done in 3-4 days. If you don’t get temps until early am and then have to shut down by noon, it takes a little longer.
Q: Will you open this weekend?
A: Too early to tell. Can’t imagine how we could possibly be ready by Saturday but I will give Sunday a slight chance – we will know more by Friday.
Q: If you can’t get open by the weekend will you open midweek?
A: Yes, as soon as we can open we will open. Disclaimer – if we are ready to open on Tuesday and that particular day has rain in the forecast, we might wait until the following day.
Q: What is your opening day trail plan
A: Top to bottom on the main face (Cascade to Canyon), Long John so we have beginner terrain from the summit, one top to bottom at Carinthia so we can supply some good park action and the Launch Pad for kids and lessons!
Q: Is your new lift, the Bluebird Express, ready to go?
A: Yes!

I’m stoked! Wish I could have saved our 18″ from October and shipped it up for you!!
Awesome news!
yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait to get out there and enjoy it. mt snow management should think about giving the classic season pass holders a couple of “free day” (ie black out days) back during the holiday season as the skiing is getting started so late.
This is not a late start at all. People are so used to riding the “white trail of death”. Vermont needs good conditions to thrive. Don’t be complaining about black out days.
Yeah, that would be really fair to WHO?
I’m already in line.
Hey Vince, is that you in back in the line? I must be in the FRONT ROW. Nice spats on your ski boots!
Yea!
Any snowmaking love at Carinthia? Can we get that cam repointed at the action?
There’s snowmaking on Mineshaft, but you can’t see it from the cam (even if we repointed it)… When we open, there will be park!
I agree with maynard. Please repoint the cam, looking at the back of Wahoo’s trailer is not that interesting & kind of uuuugggllllllllyyyyyyyy!
Looks like the summit cam needs a reboot
Are you guys blowing during the day today? What are the temps up on the mt.?
So amped to get up there. Mount snow has become my home away from home during the winter and has been a catalyst in my love affair with Vermont. Can’t wait to ride those fluffy lines!-
I was so exited when I read that I screamed!!
Are all the other lifts tested and ready for the season?
I want to come up for the premire of C the movie but I cant justify coming up from CT for that so pleaaeaease open sunday!
None of your passholders care abou beginner trails. Take every gun you have and put it on canyon/cascade. Gget ER done!!
What are there no “children” passholders???
Loving the green neon lights on the exterior of the barn next to the Blue Bird Express. Very nice touch for walking through the village after sun down
Yea those are blue….
Yes! Official word that the BlueBird is ready to fly! If you open Sunday that will rock…gives me an excuse to spend Friday night at home and finish up the last chores before I head up on Sat!
you have the best hamburgers ever!
Will there be jumps, and rails on mineshaft opening day?
there will be some features on mineshaft when it opens.
Hey Will, I’m coming from SoCT and headed to our place 1hr north at Beast of East where we’ve been skiing since Halloween. Good luck.
Just saw the snow report and the 50/50 chance of opening on Sunday. Just for planning purposes, I assume this means a 0% chance of opening tomorrow? Or is there a slim chance? Just want to know if I should be ready to hop in the car last minute.
Great question James….we would lalso ove to come up for Sunday….when will find out (of get a better than 50/50) as to whether you will be opening on Sunday??? Cant wait!!!!!! Thanks!!!!
Full price lift tickets opening day or?
As of 12:15 PM on Friday, I have not seen an announcement yet on Sunday. Can you tell us when you will know?
Mickey, it’s because we don’t know yet, and it’s possible that any announcement will have to wait until tomorrow. Stay tuned. We will most certainly shout from the rooftops!
Thanks, I’ll be waiting
I left this info on an older blog which is no longer online so am adding it here. Looks like we are not the only area with no snow so far this season,,,,but I am confident it will come and it will be great.

What’s going on with the cameras? Summit’s not reloading and carinthia’s view isnt great.. any chance we can get a better view, sorry to be needy.
When are you going to start snow making on snowdance?
Answers to some of your questions:
Yes, lifts are inspected and ready to go.
At 1:55 pm on Friday we are not making snow. We started shutting down around 9 am. Last night was not as productive as we had hoped. Due to an inversion, it was warmer on the mountain than in lower lying areas. Hopefully, tonight will be better.
We will let you know Sat am whether Sunday is a go but after last night, it is less likely.
yes but are you going to make snow on snowdance tonight?
there was no snowmaking on snowdance last night
Maynard, Snowdance isn’t on the list of first trails to get snowmaking attention, sorry! I’m sure that once we’re open, we’ll get Snowdance up and running asap!
What’s with the summit cam?
Well are you opening on Sunday or not?
sorry I did not see mickey’s post before i posted my last
How come Killington and Sunday River can make snow for 2 nights and open for skiing? You make snow for 2 nights and there’s no piles of snow and grass everywhere??
Dah!! Look at their elevations
colder temps the more north you go!
Mount Snow, I’m sorry! I can’t believe how many people are giving you &*#(%^@)! LOOK OUTSIDE PEOPLE! IT IS NOT COLD ENOUGH! There are a lot of factors that go into why other mountains can have snow and MS can’t. There are a lot of reasons MS would decide to not push it – do you really want them blowing snow now, just so it gets rained on and melts next week? You know what that kind of managerial decision does to ticket prices in the future??? Money, literally, down the tubes. Just be patient, it is bound to be cold soon, and then Mount Snow will go back to being the leader in snow quality in Vermont! Go out for a bike ride or a hike or climb a rock; ski season is coming!
Thank you Oh Come On!!, im glad im not the only one frustrated with these idiots compliants. Mt Snow i have been skiing here my whole life (25+ YEARS) and since Peak and Kelly have taken the reins the improvements and overall experience have skyrocketed. Thanks for all you do for us and I cant wait to see you on the slopes!
