Kelly’s Blog: Good Snow, Good People
Today I went out to squeeze a few runs in before a meeting and it ended up being one of those days that just makes you happy. My first run was Cascade/Canyon – the top was a little skied off and the rest was just beautiful, carvy snow. At the bottom I met up with Sarah (friend and co-worker) and then I spotted Tony. Yes, Tony from Tony’s pizza. I saw him getting his pass the other day and told him I wanted to ski with him but I didn’t think I would see him this soon. Tony hasn’t skied in 8 or 9 years so he made my day!! Can you pick out Tony doing a little marketing for his pizza while he skied?
Tony was finished for the day but his friend, Marty, joined Sarah and I and we had a great discussion about our kids on the ride up. The sun was sporting her high beams and it felt like an “out west” sort of day. Oh, and the guns were making lots of snow on Exhibition/Canyon!!!
We skied Little John to Ridge and the snowmakers did a great job fixing up Little John. Ridge was extremely edgeable, even with my butter-knife-dull skis. There were a few cookies but Sarah said they made the trail interesting – this girl must eat rainbows for breakfast – talk about good mood!
Marty split off to catch up with Tony and Sarah and I headed over to Carinthia. We took a run on Mineshaft to Gulch and I followed Sarah. Wow, she can ski!! Maybe if I keep following her I can pick up some of her style! Mineshaft was so good we decided to do it again. Gulch was also very good too – they were making snow on Gulch, Mineshaft and Nitro.
Mineshaft # 2 Sarah flew by me after the flats and we hiked out to Long John so I could head in to my meeting and Sarah could take another run to the summit. Good snow (thanks snowmakers), good people, good day!
p.s. making snow on River Run and Freefall too. Thought you should know!

I smell north face this weekend!
Taking a high school group up next Friday! Dreaming of The North Face!!! And, lets all pray for snow next week!
Why is tonys pizza now called anotonios or anthoys (can’t remember) but is it still same owners?
Tony’s Pizza is only at Mount Snow now. He sold his business on Rt 100…to Anthony.
is that his son?
What happened to my question. Are you guys editing out questions?
Sorry Super52, I deleted it by accident. We are looking to upgrade live cams and weather reporting, but it probably won’t be this season.
Thanks for replying at least. How about a blog site for suggestions thoughts rather than tying up Kelly’s and it doesn’t get removed every time someone starts a new blog but rather continues to grow.
We have a season passholder forum for such conversations. And Facebook for the general public.
I just got off the phone with Dave Moulton, our Director of Mtn Ops. We are planning on opening Freefall tomorrow. River Run is not ready yet so when you are finished skiing the North Face you take the lift out. Freefall will be ungroomed with snowmaking. It may open a little late as there may be some last minute markings we have to do in the am.
We will open Lodge Exhibition from Link down, groomed. And we may open Exhibition from the summit (ungroomed) if all goes well tonight with snowmaking.
You will see the lower part of Ridge opened. It does not look like we will get Copper’s Juction and the Tumbleweed lift for Saturday. Possibly Sunday.
Keep checking the snow report for updates. Thanks snowmakers and groomers!
Why arn’t your “Live Cams” live. They seem to be stuck quite often? Why did you change the format from last year and have a long blank between shots? Other areas seem to do a better job with their live camares?
Anthony, nothing has changed from last year with the cams. Currently the cams are down, but we’re working on getting them restarted. We’re looking to upgrade our live cam technology at some point soon.
hey Mt.snow,
i will be heading up for some skiing during the christmas vacation week. just wondering if there is any prediction on what trails will be opening throughout that week. preferably trails on the north face
Thanks
along the lines of Goggles question. Im coming up tomorrow (Whoo-Hoo) and Im curious as to why free fall hasnt been open. Is the trail not skiable or has it just been the wind and the icing screwing things up for you guys? How about Chute?
Free Fall isn’t open until we can do some grooming and resurfacing. The icing really made it impossible to groom, as it would have been bulletproof. Once it dries up and we can make a bit more snow, it should groom out just fine.
Ah Ha! Thanks for the info Dan.
Free Fall update: We will probably wait until after the rain event on Friday to groom out Freefall. If we were to groom it out now and then it rained, it would be a very firm surface on Saturday when the temperature drops. And then we would have to waste snowmaking to resurface when we could be expanding to Chute and then Timbers/Plummet.
By waiting, all the water can drain out and when we break into those mounds and moguls, for the first time, there should be some good snow in there. Meaning….Saturday could be a lot of fun! That’s the plan – can’t wait to see if it pays off.
Just wanted to say thanks for making the skiing this past Monday as good as it could have been, low temps and a light mist made it difficult to see but the excellant grooming made it pleasure to be there. We were looking like popcicles afterwards but it was well worth it.
Thank you Mount Snow!
Johnny – thanks for the feedback. I would agree. I told everyone that it was the best day of the year under foot and one of the most difficult for visibility. I came in looking like a frozen glazed donut!
This has nothing to do with the topic, but you guys should make a sign at the base of the Seasons double saying it can access the Main Base Lodge and Bluebird. I parked at the Sundance Lodge last year for a change. The Tumbleweed lift had a 15 minute wait and the Season lift had none. I didn’t know that Season’s could access the Main Base Lodge, and I wasn’t alone. The wait time on Tumbleweed could be reduced in half, and Seasons will actually see some use if a sign is made.
Hey I was just wondering about how much more snow we need to open Ripcord. I saw it from River Run today and it looked good except for a few scattered rocks and such. Anxious to get some turns on it. Thanks
