I know people are dissapointed about not having the North Face and/or Main Mtn open but there are several reasons for our decision.
• Not enough traffic to justify that much terrain.
•We wanted to choose the correct venue for the amount of skiers and riders who will be on hand. Everything at Carinthia fits better, even the lodge. The more acres we open the more lifts, Patrol, lodges, etc. we have to have on hand
•The Main Mtn is changing dramatically this week with the warm temps and rain coming in. To get it back in shape for Saturday morning would take a lot of grooming and pushing.
•Carinthia on the other hand, has more snow and is only 100 acres to cover. And Bear trap will only take a little grooming at the lift and the bumps are au natural.
•The parks, especially Nitro have been very busy in April – our park clientele seems to be our strongest segment for the late season.
•We also have some wildlife on the Main Mtn that we are trying to respect and giving them a very wide berth makes a lot of sense.
Of course none of these reasons mean much if you are a North Face enthusiast but it is the business reasons behind our decision.
