West Dover, VT (March 21, 2013) – Springtime in ski country is traditionally associated with mild weather, skiing in t-shirts on soft corn snow, crazy events and outdoor parties. This weekend at Mount Snow, there will be no shortage of crazy events and outdoor parties, but it’ll feel more like mid-winter thanks to the 19 inches of snow that fell in the middle of the week providing the best conditions of the season and a forecast calling for everything from snow to sunshine with high temperatures in the 30’s.
The crazy events start at noon on Saturday with the 12th Annual Sink or Skim Pond Skimming Contest taking place in the resort’s Main Base Area. A 100-foot long manmade pond is dug into the snow and up to 100 competitors, costumes required, will speed down the final pitch of the Exhibition trail and attempt to skim all the way across with huge crowds cheering them on and a 2013/2014 season pass on the line for the winner.
Sunday will feature the 6th Annual Duct Tape Derby where fun with arts and crafts takes on a whole new definition. Participants build sleds constructed only of cardboard, duct tape and zip ties that must be “piloted” by at least two people during the slide down the tubing hill. Prizes will be awarded for best slider, most creative, judges choice and best kids-only sled.
Live reggae music will fill the air all weekend long as part of the Bud Light Reggaefest with performances from Mighty Mystic, Kung Fu, Proverbial and Stick Figure outside on Cuzzins deck during the day and inside the Snow Barn at night.
“This is always one of the best weekends of the season with all the events and live music, but since the mountain is 100% open and there’s powder stashes everywhere thanks to all this snow we’ve been getting I think it’ll go down as one of the best ever,” says Matt Gebo, Mount Snow Director of Marketing and Events.
