Dover School Student Wins National Ski Areas Association Safety Poster Contest
West Dover, Vt. (May 28, 2013) – After always promoting and practicing the National Ski Areas Association’s safety initiatives, this is the first year Mount Snow actively participated in NSAA’s National Safety Awareness Week (Jan. 19 – 27) and Dover School student Lucas Dlubac highlighted that participation by winning the 14th Annual National Kids’ Safety Poster Contest. Lucas’ poster was chosen as the Best Overall Safety Message out of hundreds of entries from ski areas nationwide.
The annual contest targets fourth, fifth and sixth graders, but any elementary school student can participate. Peak Resorts’ risk manager Ryan Lavoie organized Mount Snow’s participation and brought the opportunity for the poster contest to teachers at Dover School and it was well received with dozens of entries being submitted to the local contest. When Lucas’ poster was chosen as the local winner, Lavoie submitted it to NSAA on behalf of Mount Snow.
“We are so excited for Lucas to be recognized with this national honor,” says Lavoie. “He’s a great kid who drew a great poster with a great message.”
Lucas has been skiing and snowboarding at Mount Snow since he was three years old and says he has been drawing for just as long.
“I’ve always loved to draw sharks so I decided to mix it in with my safety poster,” says Lucas. “I wanted to be goofy when drawing the poster to teach kids and adults to be safe and stay in control when they are on the mountain.”
At the tender age of 10, Lucas already illustrates a knack for accepting awards by concluding with a shout out to those who made it all possible.
“I would like to thank my teacher Mr. Degnon at the Dover School and Mount Snow for believing in me,” he says.
For winning the local poster contest, Mount Snow awarded Lucas with a helmet, a ride in a snow cat and other items. For winning the national contest, Lucas will receive another helmet from NSAA and his poster will be published in the NSAA Journal.
