West Dover, Vt. (June 10, 2013) – On Saturday, July 13 athletes of all ability levels will gather at Mount Snow Resort to test their fitness and raise funds for the fight against cancer by taking part in the Second Annual Tri for Hope, a sprint distance triathlon held by Mount Snow in partnership with The American Cancer Society (ACS). All proceeds from participant registration and individual fundraising efforts will benefit ACS and the Windham County Relay for Life.

This is the fifth year Mount Snow will host a triathlon, but it marks the second year the event will be put on as a fundraiser. The inaugural Tri for Hope in 2012 raised more than $24,000 and event organizers have set a goal of doubling that amount this year. The top individual fundraiser will be awarded a 2013/2014 Mount Snow season pass.

“Last year we had a smaller but very passionate field of competitors that worked very hard to raise an impressive amount of money,” says Mount Snow general manager and Tri for Hope participant, Kelly Pawlak. “This year we lowered the registration fee which we hope will get more people to participate and come enjoy what is always an amazing day.”

The Tri for Hope is a sprint distance USA Triathlon sanctioned event with three legs consisting of a 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run open to individuals and teams of two or three. A portion of the run is off-road on a maintained dirt and gravel trail on Mount Snow. Heats will be split up by age, gender and fitness level depending on how many participants register, so triathletes of all abilities – from pros with all the gear to walkers and casual bikers – are encouraged to take part and help raise money for the fight against cancer.

Registration for the Tri for Hope is $75 for one person, $100 for a team of two and $125 for a team of three. For more information or to register, visit

For nearly a century, The American Cancer Society has fought for every birthday threatened by every type of cancer in every community. By taking what they’ve learned through research and turning it into what they do, the ACS has contributed to a 15 percent decrease in the overall cancer death rate between the early 1990s and 2005. Overall, 11 million cancer survivors in America will celebrate a birthday this year. Thanks to fundraising events like the Mount Snow Tri For Hope, The American Cancer Society is able to continue its support of the battle against cancer. For more information, visit
