West Dover, Vt. (March 6, 2014) – Professional and amateur snowboarders will have almost unlimited lines to choose from this Saturday, March 8 when starting down the mega plaza terrain park set-up for The C.O.M.P. at Mount Snow’s Carinthia Parks. Following the tremendous success of the inaugural event in 2013, this year’s competition is expected to have a full field of competitors looking to flex their style on a variety of unique features with pros vying for a piece of the $7,000 purse and amateurs looking to go home with gear from sponsors.
A “plaza”, in terrain park terms, is loosely defined as an area completely filled with strategically placed terrain park features offering riders countless different lines to choose from. The features used for The C.O.M.P., like all of the 130+ elements in Carinthia’s eight parks, are custom built at Mount Snow.
Not only is this event exciting for the snowboarders competing, but from a spectator standpoint there are few other on-snow spectacles that can match what The C.O.M.P. brings in entertainment value. A traditional rail jam might have four different features in a line, which after a few runs might get stale to watch. With more than 20 different unique features including tanks, boxes, the Big “C”, wall rides and the debut of a couple new hits, all arranged at different angles and levels, repetition is not a factor.
“Like with our parks, The C.O.M.P. is a chance for us to get super creative and give these riders something they’ve never seen before,” said freestyle terrain manager, Day Franzen. “This year’s set-up is going to be unique, to say the least, so we should see some pretty ridiculous tricks.”
Event sponsors are Oakley, Bern and Skull Candy. Red Bull has kicked in $900 to be handed out in $50 bills during the event to competitors who throw down the best tricks.
