Welcome back to the Mount Snow Mountain Biking Trail Blog. Like last year I will be writing about our trail building progression, events, and posting pictures and videos for all to enjoy. This year we have added some more riding days and longer weekend hours. For opening Memorial Day Weekend we will be running lifts for downhill Friday through Monday.
The final week of preparation is upon us and the trail crew has been hard at it. Along with the usual winter repairs we have been adding to our beginner downhill trail. The trail is not as steep or technical as some of the other trails. It’s a great way to introduce yourself or others into this incredible sport of downhill mountain biking.
Many New Englanders live for the cold winters and fresh powder; however there is another breed of folk who can’t wait for the mountains to open up their splendor to two wheeled lift access. This sport of down-hilling has no distinct trend of rider…woman or man, rich or poor, young or old, smart and stupid…there is something for everyone to smile about. There isn’t much other way to describe it other than an adrenaline addiction.
The beginner downhill trail (trail 7) has been rebuffed and extended further down the mountain.

We have also added some wider bridges for newer riders wary of water crossings. (yes, they are quite heavy)

The Bridges sure look nice once they are set in place and finished

The trail has a nice easy flow with little rocks and roots for easy crusin’.

The guys in the bike shop at Mount Snow Sports have also been hard at it building our new fleet of Jamis bikes and prepping the existing rental fleet. In the shop you’ll be able to find plenty of gear to keep you on the trails and off the couch. This year we will also have some Mount Snow Mountain Biking logoed wear as well.

The crew has also started discussing the race course for the first of two Eastern States Cup Races. I have done some looking here and there for something new and exciting to bring to the course. We aren’t giving away many secrets yet but let me tell you it’s going to be something to anticipate. We are also hoping to have some special events this summer so keep posted to www.mountsnow.com for updates.
Hope to see everyone in the lift line for first chair of the season.

The pre-bike season prep works sounds great. Really looking forward to introducing some family members to the beginner downhill trail. When will Trail 7 be reflected on the trail maps?
Trail 7 will be on the new map. The trail is completed from the top of lift 9 to the top of lift 8. We are working hard to finish the trail to the bottom of the hill over the next month.
I’ve been riding Mt. Snow since the first year they offered lift access Mountain Biking. (I’m old) I fell in love with the sport on my first run and have been involved with the sport ever since. I think because of strict regulations on what trails could be built on that land and perhaps coupled with a seemingly lack luster enthusiasm from Mt Snow management to recognize the opportunity they had, it always seemed that it could have been better. For the exception of all the awesome race courses built over the years Mt. Snow was a just an OK place to ride, not well maintained and by no means lived up to calling themselves “The Mountain Bike Capitol Of The East”.
O boy have things changed!
It looks like Brandon, Justin and the crew has stayed true to their word. “We’ve gotten the approval nod from management to do this thigh right and WILL make a mountain bike destination out of this place once again” I was told last season.
After seeing first hand all of the much needed trail improvements last season along with a refocused attitude towards the great sport of Downhill Mountain Biking, I read this blog and I’m once again encouraged to see the continued forward momentum that Mt. Snow has committed to. New Bikes, New trails and a new beginning. Last year was great, this year will be awesome.
I guess one could argue that the sport itself has also evolved and that played a big part in all of this but I happen to know it takes committed team of people who love the sport and have the talent source out new equipment and trail building techniques to make the improvements that Mt. Snow has made possible.
See you on OPP, Mike from Yorktown Heights NY. Keep in pinned!
Came here to see if anything was going on with Mount Snow’s biking program and it’s nice to see something happening. I used to ride here a loooong time ago, but a trip to Bromont, Highland, Mountain Creek, or even Burke shows how much the sport has evolved, and the serious level of commitment required to draw the riders in. It’s not enough to just weed-whack a trail down the blue and green ski runs anymore. I really hope Mount Snow remains focused and can rise to the level of the mountains that sprung up in the last decade.
Best of luck.
Looks tasty. I will be there opening day.
Stoked to ride… brandon get at me!
Rode the trails in a downpour yesterday and had a blast! Haven’t done any biking at mount snow in a few years, and you guys have definitely stepped it up a notch. I especially enjoyed trail 10. Couldn’t wait to ride it ever since stumbling upon that bridge in the lower OMT woods on skis last winter. I will be back on a drier day!
