I would visit friends with horses and we would have lunch. We would gather at someone house with a riding ring and have pretend competitions. I would explore trails and roads in So. VT, sometimes ending up very far from home. Today, I imagine that the people probably called my mother at work and said, “Your daughter just rode by my house on her horse.”

Remember running free during the summer in southern Vermont. Hiking, biking, swimming, good friends, and also haying on the neighbors farm. Not sure we would have the freedom today that we did so many years ago. Today I think summer camp is the way to give kids the experience.
