Mount Snow Valley League
The 2011/2012 Valley League Race Series is back!
(Schedule & Updates Below)
Racing, Parties, & Prizes.. Grab some friends and make a team.
While the 2011/2012 season has had a late start, we are still crossing our fingers for a crazy snowstorm in order for Valley League to challenge you on all levels of ski/snowboard racing! Our first race of the season will now be on January 4th due to Mother Nature’s non cooperation with us, however of course this is weather permitting. The race will be held on Charlie’s Chase. We have some new venues this year and hope to increase to over 10 teams, so far we already have 9! Registration again will be $100 per person for the season. Mount Snow employees receive a 25% discount.
Racing will take place on Wednesday’s from 10am – 2pm on Charlie’s Chase, Ego Alley, and South Bowl! Registration takes place the morning of the first three races from 8am-10am in the Main Base Lodge (cash or check only please).
Each competitor will be asked to take two runs during race time and their best time will be taken. Scoring will be weighted based on the amount of competitors within that division (Male Ski, Female Ski, Male Snowboard, Female Snowboard). Competitors will be allowed to drop their two lowest point totals for Valley League King and Queen bracketed system.
This year we are proud to have Long Trail, Sierra Nevada, Magic Hat, Otter Creek, Olde Burnside Brewing Company and Bud Light all on board as beer sponsors. Restaurants in the valley hosting parties include The Valley View Saloon, the Dover Bar & Grill, the Silo, the Lodge at Mount Snow, Hermitage, NEW One More Time and the end of season banquet at Harriman’s. Each week we’ll video tape the race and have parties at each establishment featuring a highlight video from the day, drinks, appetizers, and a bib raffle for all competitors.
Like last year, at each party location we’ll have our sponsored beer on tap as well as representatives from the breweries/sponsors.
Fees:
- $100 per person for the season.
- $75 per Mount Snow employee for the season.
- Non Season Pass Holders can purchase a discounted Valley League lift ticket for Wednesdays at $45.00. This will only be good on race days and you have to be registered in Valley League to recieve one.
Teams:
- 10 person maximum per team, 5 person minimum.
- There are no mandatory # of skiers or snowboarders or gender specific needs. However in order to maximize your teams points it is beneficial to have at least one person from every division.
- Teams must be finalized by the third race of the season.

**UPDATES**
Here are the Brackets for Tomorrow’s Race: VL King & Queen Brackets 2012
Please read below to see how the race will run.
Hello Valley Leaguers!
Our one and only King & Queen race is tomorrow! Thank you everyone for RSVPing whether you are going to race or not. That was very helpful with making the brackets. For those of you that do not know how the King & Queen race works I can give you a little explanation. I have gone through the results of the season and put all competitors in a class that they fell under most often. I then tallied the points that each competitor received throughout the season to see who you would race against in the bracket.
Here are the Brackets: VL King & Queen Brackets 2012
They will also be posted at the top of the course.
The race will be held on Charlie’s Chase. Since we are racing in brackets this week everyone MUST be at the top of the course at 10am! If you have a Bye feel free to come a little later around 10:30am. For those of you that can not make the 10am (give or take) start time, please let me know ASAP! Unfortunately if you can not make the 10am start time you will not be able to race as you will keep your other friendly competitors waiting. Some divisions will have to take up to 8 runs to crown a champion and that won’t be possible starting any later than 10am. Team Captains: Some competitors are not added to this e-mail list as they did not provide me with their e-mail. Please make sure that they know this information!
The course will be a dual paneled giant slalom. Timing will be a little different for this one as we will use differential timing, meaning you are racing each other and not against the clock. You will start simultaneously off a countdown from our starter(you are allowed one fault and then will be disqualified on the second). Timing will start when the first person crosses the finish line, and stops when the second person finishes, giving the time differential. Maximum differential time will be 1.5 seconds. You will then flip sides and run again. Whomever’s differential is in the negative after the two runs will move on and the other person will be eliminated. Tiebreaker will go to the highest seed.
Example 1: Racer A starts on the red and beats Racer B by 0.45 seconds, for a differential of -0.45. They now go back to the top and Racer A now starts on the blue side. Racer B wins by 0.21 seconds, but Racer A has now has a total differential of -.24 and moves on, while Racer B finishes with +.24 and is eliminated.
Example 2: Racer A falls on first run, and loses by 23 seconds for a differential of +1.5. Racer B falls on run 2 and loses by 19 seconds for a differential of +1.5 for the second run, and a 0.0 differential for the two runs. Since they tied, whichever racer has a higher seed will move on and the lower disqualified.
We will have a consolation round to find our third place finisher, so if you make it to the final 4 in your division and lose, you are not out! Please go back to the start and you will race another two runs to figure out 3rd and 4th place.
The final party will be held at the Snowbarn. They will be serving a full meal including pizza, wings, nachos, and salad. They will also be doing a $2 Long Trail special, as Long Trail will be sponsoring the race this week. We will be having a Bib raffle for ALL Valley Leaguers, even if you did not race this week so make sure you come join us even if you can not race! PLEASE NOTE: This party is open to anyone (wife, husband, children, girlfriend, boyfriend, friends) but they will be charged $15 for adults and $10 for children. All Valley League competitors are free.
I want to thank everyone for hanging in there this season. With our difficulties from Mother Nature I feel that we have truly had a successful season. I have had a lot of fun and wish everyone some happy spring skiing!
Audrey :-)
