Why Mount Snow

We know you have options. And we know your time is valuable. Most of all, we know that ski trips are all about getting away from it all and having fun. We believe Mount Snow encompasses everything a great ski vacation is made of. Here’s why.

The Bluebird Express

Mount Snow is the only place in North America where you will find a high speed detachable six passenger bubble lift. We call it the Bluebird Express, for short. This $8.5 million technologically advanced chairlift was brand new for the 2011/2012 season and it is nothing short of incredible. The bubbles on each chair can be lowered by the passengers to provide similar protection as a gondola cabin, but with the convenience of keeping skis and boards on their feet. The seven minute ride from base to summit is so smooth the only reason you would want it to end is so you can enjoy another amazing run down one of Mount Snow’s 80 trails. Close to Home

Mount Snow is Vermont’s closest mountain resort to most of the Northeast’s major metropolitan areas. That means actual big mountain skiing is not far from home, and with gas still hovering around four dollars a gallon, the less distance you have to travel the better. The bottom line is, why travel any farther when you have a big resort like Mount Snow right down the road? Directions.

Vermont’s Most Powerful Snowmaking

At the root of it, what is always needed to make a day out on the mountain a great one? Snow. It’s all about the snow. Since Peak Resorts acquired Mount Snow in 2007 that has been our mantra. Peak has invested nearly $10 million into upgrading all aspects of our snowmaking system, namely the installation of 253 high output/high efficiency fan guns throughout the resort – the most fan guns in North America. We get our fair share of knee deep powder days, which coupled with the unmatched quality of our manmade snow makes Mount Snow the mountain that lives up to its name. In fact, we are so confident in our snow, we guarantee it.

Vermont’s Smoothest Ride: Grooming

Creating a perfect, consistent snow surface on a daily basis is not so much a job as it is an art form. Like any artist, our experienced snow cat operators take a lot of pride in their work and are not satisfied with mediocrity. Every night they take to the slopes in our state-of-the-art fleet of grooming machines to lay down the kind of corduroy you tell your friends about.

Terrain Park Dominance

Mount Snow has always had a reputation for building some of the best terrain parks in the nation dating all the way back to Un Blanco Gulch; the first terrain park on the East Coast. Fast forward to now and enter: Carinthia – the largest terrain park system on this side of the country. With 100 acres of dedicated freestyle terrain, an average of 150 features in ten parks of varying size including a superpipe and a halfpipe, Carinthia stands alone as the East’s premier park system. But you don’t have to take our word for it, we have the #1 east coast parks in Transworld’s annual rankings.

Family Friendly

Family vacations are easy, right? I know that just made you shake your head. What if there was a place to go that made your family vacation easy, fun, convenient and relaxing? There is. Mount Snow! For the little ones, we have a top-notch child care facility for children as young as six weeks and we have amazing programs to get them on snow as young as three years old; check out Cub Camp. For kids 4-6, our Snow Camp program will improve your child’s skills on and off the slopes.

Mount Snow is an Official Burton Learn to Ride Center and features a Burton Riglet Park for teaching 3-6 year old snowboarders. For your little groms 7-14, Mountain Camp and Mountain Riders continues their on-hill education and fun!

For the teenagers, we have a 100 acre freestyle playground, Carinthia parks, with jibs and jumps for all ability levels. They can hang out in the Carinthia Base Lodge, play some XBOX or enjoy some food. And for you, there’s a big mountain to explore, private lessons at our ski school, a multitude of après ski options and tubing… because what big kid doesn’t love tubing? Couple all of this with family friendly activities going on all the time and dining options with you and your crew in mind. Click here to view our family friendly guide.

Mount Snow’s Lodging

Mount Snow is a pretty big place with lots of terrain to explore, so it only makes sense to stick around for a couple days so you can try and see as much of the mountain as possible. There is an abundance of lodging options for you to choose from right here at the resort including the Grand Summit Resort, our ski in/ski out luxury hotel, multi-bedroom condos and a recently-renovated Snow Lake Lodge.

So Much to do!

The Mount Snow Valley not only has an abundance of places to stay, it also has an abundance of things to do when you’re off the slopes. Pamper yourself with a massage or facial at Mount Snow’s naturespa located in the Grand Summit Resort Hotel. Enjoy a quiet glide through the woods on cross country skis at The Hermitage or Timber Creek. Or, cruise through the Green Mountain National Forest on a snowmobile! Take advantage of the many shops featuring local crafts and artists as well as Vermont made foods in West Dover and nearby Wilmington.

Après Ski

Let’s face it, we’re not skiers and riders just because we love skiing and riding. That’s a huge part of it, no doubt. But how often do you leave after a day out on the mountain without going into the nearest watering hole for a beer, a bite and some laughs? Après ski completes the day, and we have après ski down to a science here at Mount Snow. Cold beer, hot toddies, great food and live music can all be found here every day, right on resort.

History

When our founder Walt Schoenknecht stood atop Mount Pisgah (the original name of Mount Snow) in the winter of 1949 and said to himself, “This is where I’m going to build my ski resort”, he knew he was onto something special. In the 57 years since Mount Snow first opened, the resort has always pushed the envelope of progression within the ski industry; making history along the way. Fast forward to now, and we are making history once again with the installation of North America’s only high speed detachable six passenger bubble lift, the Bluebird Express.
